The budget came out yesterday. To a lot of people it’s just a man holding up a skanky red briefcase and grinning like as if contains the answer to the meaning of life. But it will actually make a difference to young people. The chancellor George Osborne announced that there would be a rise on alcohol and cigarette tax by 2%. This means a pint of beer will cost about 4p more and a bottle of wine 15p. Better news for low-earners is that tax allowance will be increased next year. From April 2012 you will be able to earn £8,105 of tax-free money, up from the £7,475 it will be this year. That’s great! Now, if only we could find a job…
