Q & A with Lonsdale Boys Club

Verge Presenter Laura Thompson chatted with the guys of Lonsdale Boys Club. Read on below!

Charlie, Loz and Topher. Tell us at Verge Magazine a secret each about you guys?

Charlie – When I was about 10 or 11 I crashed my dad’s car and paid my mum to take the blame.

Topher – I sleep in the shower and I’m scared of most fruit, especially bananas.

Loz – I’m secretly a woman (Loz couldn’t be here so we answered for him)

What’s your “guilty pleasure” song on your iPod?

Charlie – Hey ma – Camron and Dancing in the Moonlight – Toploader.

You guys met through a mutual friend. How did you go from being mates to a band? Who came up with the name for the band?

We met on Lonsdale Road near where we all live. Our guitar teacher introduced us and when we realised we were into similar things. We started writing together and eventually we built our own studio together on Lonsdale Road.

When we were building the studio Loz (keys n beats) would say as a joke, “it’s like a lads club in here.” We modified it and the joke stuck.  We’re very happy it did though!

You are writing your forthcoming album at the moment. What can we expect from it? And when will we be able to get our hands on it?

The album should be out around autumn time. You can expect big songs. We explore different genres and styles while keeping it under the LBC umbrella.

How would you describe your sound?

A melting pot.  We each bring different qualities to the sound and take the songs down different avenues in terms of genre, style and feel.  If I had to try and pigeon hole, I’d say it’s…zesty, fresh guitar pop with an urban flava!

You have been touring with Olly Murs- how has that experience been? Has it made you even more determined to keep going and hopefully headline a tour of your own in the near future?

The arena tour was insane! We’ve always envisaged our songs being performed on that scale so it really helped us figure out what to work towards – in terms of hooks and sonics.
